Austrian Certificates Day 2024

Title successfully defended: For the 18th subsequent time we are Issuer of the Year

  • A quarter of the population already owns securities
  • Certificates make it easier to enter capital markets

On June 13, 2024, Austrian and international certificate issuers and the interested capital market audience gathered for the Certificates Day with congress and subsequent award ceremony. This year, the congress organized by Zertifikate Forum Austria and Zertifikate Journal focused on "Investing with enthusiasm - harnessing the potential of the capital market".

Sandra Binder-Tietz, Managing Director of the Center for Research in Financial Communication at the University of Leipzig, presented a current study on "Finfluencer Relations", which was carried out in cooperation with the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences. A market overview of finfluencers in the DACH region showed that there are currently 278 active finfluencers with a total of almost 28 million followers. She then presented various types of cooperation with finfluencers, from affiliate links to community events. It became clear that the majority of finfluencers categorically rule out influencing content.

Christoph Boschan, CEO Wiener Börse, Christian Drastil, CEO Börse Social Network, Lara Hartmann, Digital Business Communication student at St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences and Friedrich Mostböck, Head of Group Research Erste Group Bank AG, then debated how to get more people interested in the capital market, with Philipp Arnold, Member of the Board, Zertifikate Forum Austria, moderating the panel discussion.

In his statement, Christoph Boschan explained the positive effects of investing in capital markets: "More than one in four people in Austria already own securities. One fifth of the population who do not yet invest are interested in doing so. This huge potential must be activated through tax measures such as a retention period for securities, the expansion of the second and third pillars of old-age provision and even greater financial education in schools. Everyone benefits from a well-developed capital market: citizens build up assets, companies can access more capital for innovation and growth and the state budget is relieved."

In his presentation, Agenda Austria Director Franz Schellhorn outlined his vision for a European capital market: "Europe is bursting with ideas that want to be financed, but our capital markets are too fragmented. The new European Parliament is now a great opportunity here. If we get a real capital markets union off the ground, the next Netflix might be from Neustadt and the next Baidu from Bregenz."

In her speech, Heike Arbter, Head of Raiffeisen Certificates, explained the major advantage of certificates as a portfolio component: "The secret of certificates' success is that they diversify both the underlying assets and the payout profiles.

Due to the very advantageous combination of return opportunities and protection mechanisms, they are becoming increasingly popular with private investors."

Number 1 in certificates since 2007

Raiffeisen emerged as the best issuer in 2024. Outstanding product quality, a broad range of certificates in the primary and secondary market and the ongoing development of innovative digital tools (product factsheets and top picks on our website as well as the financial coach for myELBA customers etc.) impressed the 22-member award jury. The audience award for Info&Service also went to the Raiffeisen Certificates team. The 18th overall victory in a row proves that we have succeeded in establishing suitable investment solutions for investors.
